People #003

July 2010
62 x 94 cm
Watercolour, Charcoal, & Acrylic on Paper

“People” is a series of paintings cultivated from fears, insecurities and passions. Life dances with death. Peace struggles with violence. Humanity wrestles with equality. And reason struggles with the afterlife. The paintings are tumultuous, chaotic, and filled with divergence and aggressiveness. Nonetheless, these works achieve peace and harmony by balancing disorder, spontaneity and an intrinsic sense of control, color, line and shape. The subjects have an implied physicality without being bound by natural limitations. Artistic expression rises from the painted surface without a clear representation of reality. The paintings invite open and free analysis by the viewer and cause each person to pause and contemplate their own fears, insecurities and passions.
